A rewarding Saturday in Amsterdam
Written by Sanne de Boer

Image Yay! I won the National BBC Young Writers Audience Award 2010 yesterday! The live audience at the National BBC Awards 2010 event in Amsterdam chose my essay out of the ten finalist essays in the short list.

It was a very exciting, and slightly tiring day full of formalities and nerve wrecking moments, but it was worth it and in the end, a lot of fun. I met some really lovely people (and some, eh, interesting people) and it was a great learning experience.

In total, there were approximately 900 votes: 500 via the internet and 400 from the live audience at the event. It was the most amazing compliment to get the Audience Awards, especially because I learned from one of the judges that, if it hadn't been for the 400 people on the audience voting, I wouldn't have won. It might not seem like a big deal, but the fact that everybody in the audience got a copy of all the ten written pieces and actually had to read them before voting ensured me of the fact that I won because people actually liked my piece. And what better news can a writer get?

ImageMost of all, however, the best thing I learned at the National BBC Awards Final was that I had the loudest, most obnoxious, most opinionated, most enthusiastic, most hilarious and most incredible supporters any formal international competition has ever seen. Go Groningen.

Update 11-4-2010 22:43: the results are on the BBC Awards website.

Update 12-4-2010 12:04: on Monday, April 12th 2010, an article about the BBC Awards appeared in 'Dagblad van het Noorden'.

ImageThe British Ambassador, Mr Paul Arkwright, invited all the finalists of the BBC Awards to tea and cake at his residence on the eve of the final of the Young Writers and Public Speakers Awards 2010. He's also the chairman of the jury. This means I will be doing tea in The Hague. Exciting!

Next Tuesday a video-clip will be made of me to show at the BBC Awards 2010 National Finalon April 10. Wicked!

BBC Awards 2010

ImageHello readers and followers! I have a small newsupdate for you that you might find interesting concerning my participation in the BBC Awards .

A few weeks ago I wrote a small piece concerning the way the changes in the media landscape have affected the world of entertainment for the Young Writers Award competition, as part of the BBC Awards.

As of this Friday I learned I (and 9 other contestants out of a few hundred) made it to the shortlist, a list containing the best ten contestants for this year's Young Writers Award. The winner and runner-up will be selected from the shortlisted entries at the national final on 10 April. For the first time the Audience Award will be determined not only by the audience at the national final, but through a public vote on the BBC Awards website .

If you want to vote for me (which I hope you do) you can do so here !

Thanks in advance and tell all your friends!

Human Ingenuity Award

Sanne receiving the Human Ingenuity AwardOn Thursday the 26th of June 2008 I attended the TTO Awards Ceremony at the Maartens College. Every year a number of students (TTO1 - TTO4) receive an award for an outstanding achievement.

To my surprise I was one (out of ten) of the students to receive a TTO award. My parents had been informed in advance but kept it a secret, so I was totally unprepared. I received  the Human Ingenuity Award for a technology project I did this year as well as my book, "My Theatre of Dreams".

What a great way to end TTO!

Radio interview on Radio Compagnie

Friday, 21 March 2008

Image On Friday, March 21, between 8PM and 9PM, Sanne is doing a live radio interview in Hoogezand-Sappemeer, on Radio Compagnie. They have a webcam in the studio, and the picture on the left was taken during the program by that webcam. In the back is Coen, Sanne's boyfriend, and in the front is one of the two interviewers from Radio Compagnie. It was a pretty long interview (they spent most of the hour on My Theatre of Dreams), and Sanne got the opportunity to read from her story.

Last week I got a phone call from someone at HS Krant in Hoogezand-Sappemeer, they wanted to do short interview by phone for their newspaper. It looks like it was publised today, because my mother got a phone call from a local radio station in Hoogezand Sappemeer, Radio Compagnie. So I guess I'll be on air in Hoogezand-Sappemeer soon. I'll let you know as soon I know when it's scheduled.

About this site

My name is Sanne de Boer. This site was initially created to promote my first novel "My Theatre of Dreams", published in March 2008. Lately there's been some new writing developments, a follow-up if you like. One of these developments is that I was one of the last ten contestants in the National BBC Young Writers Awards 2010. During the finals I won the Audience Award, based on the internet votes and the votes of the live audience at the event.
